about

“Before now later” is the debut album for Norwegian ensemble Vinterhage. A crossover of neo-classical and Scandinavian jazz. It’s melodic, mellow and spacious, sometimes touching on the minimalistic.

Skogstur (a walk in the woods). I like the idea that songs are like short walks.

Forspill nr.18 (prelude number 18) I tried many times to make this piece into something more. Never have I succeeded and eventually I gave up, accepting it might be perfect in its simplicity.

Vinterhage(conservatorium) A place to grow things and experience nature without being exposed to the elements. This is a place for music. This self-titled track and band name is in Norwegian two words put together, winter and garden. It represents the dualism of seasons. A structure of glass, light and warmth.

Melodi i fiss (Melody in F-sharp) This song came about after my father passed away. It's dedicated to him. The title is inspired by Anton Rubenstein piece “Melody in F”. My father played it beautifully.

Vuggevise(lullebye) A lullaby for everyone in the need of some R&R. Let the rhythm take you into nothingness.

Til Mona (to Mona) In the memory of a sister, daughter and friend.

Til Kristine (to Kristine) A composition challenge from my girlfriend. She loves minimalistic music.

Natt-tur (a walk in the night time) Finally revealing my jazz. Have you ever been out walking when everyone is sleeping, and everything is dark and quiet? It's a memorable feeling.
